Aventura, Florida Spells Adventure at Its Finest

Aventura, Florida is a relatively small suburban city (9.1 km2), hosting a population of about 30, 000 people. The name Aventura has Spanish origins with a connotation of adventure or an adventurous person. And true to the name, this town spells the word adventure with a rhythm you might not have experienced anywhere else in the world. The amazing thing is, this city was only established 14 years ago (1995).

The city of Aventura is in North Eastern Miami, specifically the Miami Dade County. Though a separate functional city, Aventura still relies on the Miami-Dade Fire department. The official city addresses are also as yet, Miami addresses. However, the city now boasts of a police department under its jurisdiction.

The city of Aventura initially developed purely as a residential area of the Oxford Development Company, beginning late 70’s and early 80’s. At that time, most of the area was a swamp, then called the Biscayne Gardens. The city has seen a phenomenal growth in the past two decades, making it an ideal place to settle down. Located only a 30-minute drive out of Miami and 15-minute drive from Fort Lauderdale, the city is readily accessible form other major cities in Florida.

One of the most significant of all Aventura's land marks is the 2.4 million square foot Aventura Mall near the so called condominium developments. The indoor mall prides itself in a supplicated variety for the ultimate shopping experience. This mall was initially developed by Eddie Lewis, Ray Parello and Donny Soffer for Oxford Development but it is now owned by Turnberry Associates and Simon Property Group.

Here you will get leading American brand names, from an AMC movie theatre to Macy’s, Nordstrom to Bloomingdale's and from JCPenney to Sears. The mall has had a significant influence on the city’s prolific growth, especially as a commercial hub. Besides the magnificent mall, the city is also the home of award winning Aventura City of Excellence School, which ranks very high in Florida’s top ten schools even though it was only inaugurated in 2003.

Standing at a single meter from the sea level, the city boasts of four amazing beaches namely; Hallandale Beach, Sunny Isles Beach, Golden Beach and North Miami Beach. These beaches are the finest in South Florida and they are just minutes out of the city, via the William H. Lehman Causeway. Aventura features a pleasant tropical climate with a perpetually warm and humid atmosphere.

The summers gets magical here, truly reminiscent of tropical blessings. The round-the-year climate is largely moderated by the Gulf Stream with summer temperatures never dipping lower than 21°C and rising to as high as 35 °C.

The city’s median income for every household is around $60. About 60% of population speaks English as a first language while 23% speak Spanish. The transport system is also elaborate and very convenient given that the city is art the mid of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Miami International Airport.

The city has an efficient public shuttle bus service run public bus service which is free to city residents. The Miami-Dade Transit also runs through the city with the I-95 interstate highway only 5 minutes away from downtown.
